Chris Evans could receive a nomination for his performance in Defending Jacob according to the latest Emmy FORECAST

Every year, the Emmy rewards the best in the television industry and every year outlets and ceremony specialists like to make predictions before the official announcement.

The current worldwide situation may have put the cinematic industry on hold but 2020 allowed, no doubt, to revive and highlight the excellence that the small screen still has to offer.

Last November, Apple launched its official streaming service with original content and five-star actors. One of the most anticipated releases was the drama series Defending Jacob, starring MCU actor Chris Evans.

The limited show, which consists of 8 episodes, started streaming on April 24 and has already notably bumped up viewer engagement. The gripping series, based on the novel by William Landay, follows an assistant district attorney Andy Barber (Evans) whose son is suspected to be guilty of the murder he is investigating. Actors Jaeden Martell and Michelle Dockery complete the Barber family, as well as guest star J. K. Simmons (Spider-Man: Far from Home).

But Defending Jacob could very much be Chris Evans’ tour de force in the industry. The actor, who hung up the shield after playing Captain America for 10 years, could finally receive long-deserved recognition for his top-notch performance as a conflicted father. He’d already proven his talent in acclaimed movies like Knives Out, Snowpiercer by Academy Award winner Bong Joon-ho or Puncture.

The show has not yet ended but Evans’ solid and subtle acting has already convinced industry insiders, on top of the general audience.

At Cape & Castle, we have been covering the show and we couldn’t be more excited about this promising prospect.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Evans is being eyed for an Emmy nomination as Best Actor in a Limited Series and would join other frontrunners Mark Ruffalo (Avengers: Endgame), Jeremy Irons or Russel Crowe, among others.

A glowing list of nominees that is testament to Evans’ raw and shrewd performance in Defending Jacob.

We will have to wait until July 14 for the official Emmy nominations. Either way, Chris Evans has already built strong foundations for his career in the future and proven there is delicate complexity underneath the star-spangled suit.

Defending Jacob streams every Friday on Apple TV+.
