So, as this season opened, it was really clear just how many changes there have been with characters on this show. Besides the fact that I’m still in disbelief that we are in season ten! And watching this episode leaves me hopeful that it can be a bit of a refresher. I’ve always loved Med, but it has me a little weary with characters. I feel like every time they get me invested, someone leaves. So let’s hope this season starts a trend of that no longer happening. Especially because I really enjoyed this first episode of the season. It set a great tone and I’m kind of loving the cast right now. Along with keeping my fingers crossed that we don’t get any announcements of someone leaving. So keep reading for my Chicago Med 10×01 review!
Heading One
Things got real busy, real quick. But in typical Maggie fashion, she had things well in hand and under control. She made sure that everyone was ready to go, including Goodwin. It’s nice to know that being an administrator doesn’t stop her from jumping into the fray. She didn’t hesitate to show up and do everything she could to be helpful. But even with all the preparation, things were still a little more than hectic. It was a really tragic situation and I appreciated them showing the amount of people that didn’t make it. Situations like the boat capsizing do not always have a happy ending. At least, not for everyone involved. And instead of just mentioning the number of people who were lost, they really showed that impact and it definitely hit for me.

We barely got a chance to meet Naomi last season before it was over. So I’m definitely looking forward to getting to know more about her and really see what she can do. She is definitely nervous and a bit hesitant but I have no doubt she will have things down in no time. Naomi is clearly extremely smart and I feel like she knows the right answers. She just doesn’t have the confidence to act on them. But I think that will come in time. Especially when she is around such a talented and incredible group of doctors, nurses, specialists, and other medical providers.
New Characters and Dynamics
While I hate it when a character leaves, it does give room for new ones to be introduced. And I love the opportunity to meet new characters. Especially when they come off as total badasses like Caitlin Lenox. She definitely gave me some Rhodes vibes and I’m always here for that. We could use a little excitement and some risk-taking but lifesaving decisions being made. But I don’t know if I’m here for some of her moves like firing Zach. She also wasn’t the only one giving Rhodes-like vibes as Dr. John Frost came on the scene. He immediately gave Maggie a run for her money with his charm and smile. She definitely said it right when she said he was trouble. And clearly another risk-taker.
Speaking of risks, it was definitely a risk they took with the pregnant patient. But they clearly weren’t left with any other options and the situation was pretty urgent. With Archer and Hannah on the case though, I wasn’t extremely worried. The two of them make a great team and I was actually more excited to see them pull that surgery off than I was nervous they would lose her and the baby. There was a moment that it did seem like that was exactly what was going to happen. But luckily, mom and baby were both able to be stabilized. Though I am totally with Hannah that the mom heard her baby crying and that played a role in them getting her back.
On A Break
I’m kind of rooting for Hannah and Mitch. I wasn’t sure how I felt about them at first. But they’ve grown on me. Of course, that was just in time for them to be on a break. And I would be lying if I said I wasn’t surprised by the chemistry between Mitch and Caitlin Lenox. Did I love watching it? Yes. But I’m also frustrated because I just jumped on board with Mitch and Hannah (no pun intended). Now I can’t decide if I’m here for them to be off their break or looking forward to more bantering and bickering between Mitch and Caitlin. I may have to hold off on making any decisions and see how their relationships play out over the next few episodes. It helped that Mitch and Hannah seemed to make up in the end. Maybe I don’t have to worry about Caitlin.
