‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ 5×01 Review: “Both Sides, Now”

The final season premiere was finally here. And I just know I’m not going to be able to make it through a single episode without tearing up at least once. Though, knowing this show, it’s probably going to be full on bawling at least once an episode. So I have that to look forward  to. Along with so many changes. Grace is off saving the world, Carlos and TK have been married for a year, and Carlos is now a Texas Ranger. But some things have stayed the same such as the love between our favorite characters and their loyalty to one another. And the comedy is still coming in hot. So keep reading for my 9-1-1: Lone Star 5×01 review!

Legacy

Legacy is going to be a huge part of this final season. Which I am still struggling to believe. I want so many more seasons and I am in complete denial that this show will just be no more at the end of this season. But I also have faith that the writers were able to prepare for the end of the series. So I’m hopeful that things will wrap up nicely and we won’t be left with a terrible cliffhanger. Because nothing would be worse than that. But there is so much more to the legacy that  the different characters have already left behind and will continue to leave behind. Plus, I’ll continue holding out some hope that we might see them hang out in California at some point. With another station that we know and love.

Carlos’ father has left behind quite a legacy and reputation behind. And there would be nobody better to pick up the mantle and carry on than Carlos. He has worked so hard and has truly earned his position as a Texas Ranger. I would take ten more seasons just to be able to get more of that. Because does that hat ever look perfect on him. And he has an eye for figuring things out. Grace has also left behind quite the legacy and I don’t know how we are going to do the rest of this season behind. Luckily, Liam seems to be picking up her legacy. And then we have Judd, who is leaving behind a legacy of his own as he starts on his new retirement journey.

Can’t Be Replaced

Why? Why in the last season do we have to have Judd retiring from the 123? He should just stick out one more season if this is going to be the last one anyway. It’s bad enough that we are going to have to see him struggling to be on his own without Grace. But I can’t even be mad about that because she’s off doing great things. And I would take that exit option over them killing her character any day of the week. But it still doesn’t make up for the sad Judd that we are going to have to see for the whole season. And now we are going to have to bear him being a truck driver? Thank you, Wyatt, for talking some freaking sense into your father. That was almost a complete and utter freaking disaster.

While it was absolutely hilarious to see Paul and Marjan be ridiculous trying to prove they would be the best choice to replace Judd, the fact is, he can’t be replaced. I don’t care what Judd says, there is no way he is going to do anything other than fighting with the 126. So I will admit that I was a little upset with Owen when he asked Judd who he thought should replace him. Seriously, Owen!? Read the room, man! You should have been asking for him to come back, not asking him who he wants to replace him! Because I have no doubts that if Owen had asked, Judd would have offered no resistance and no hesitation to jumping right back into things. So right now, I’m mad at you, Owen.

Not Ready to Say Goodbye

Not only did we have to miss TK and Carlos in their entire first year of marriage, but now we have to say goodbye to them for good? No way am I just going to accept this! They have so much more to their story and I refuse to believe this is just it. These two deserve all of the things with their happily ever after. So they better have nothing but good news and great things coming their way in the remaining episodes. I don’t want a single bad thing to happen to them. But I don’t know if that’s going to be the case with Carlos spending so much of his free time on looking into his father’s murder. Not that I blame him for doing it. I just worry that it’s going to bring him a lot of trouble and a lot of danger.
