It feels like it has been forever since this one has been back on my screen! So I could not be more excited that the new season has finally begun! And it definitely started with a bang! I love when there are jumps forward between seasons at times. But I will say that I was really glad the season opener picked up exactly where we left off! There was so much going on that wasn’t even close to being resolved. And if this first episode of the season is any indication, I think I am going to be on the edge of my seat for the foreseeable future! So keep reading for The Rookie 6×01 review!
All Out
Even injured and dealing with so many different things going on, our team never gave up. They knew there was something big going down and I loved that they kept the bad guys on their toes so well. Especially Boyd Taylor. He is such a smug villain and thought he had everything so well planned out and had taken care of every possible variable. It was so satisfying to see that he was not at all prepared for the incredible people that make up our favorite squad. Sure, he kept his cool on the outside but I know that he was sweating it on the inside. He was only going to be able to run for so long. But I don’t know how I feel about him being taken out.

Another thing I love about picking up where the last episode of last season left off was that there was no hesitation to jump into the action. Right from the start there were shots being fired. But then we did get that little time jump to six weeks later so that we could once again get right into the thick of things. I’m not surprised The Rookie knows how to keep us on our toes. They’ve already been doing it for the last five seasons. But it still never ceases to impress me that they are able to pace things out so well and find a way to make everything make sense. I never feel like I’m missing something.
Injuries Galore
Our favorite squad was looking a bit worse for the wear throughout this episode. Picking up where we left off means there has been zero time for any of them to recovery from the all out brawls they just went through. Between that, Aaron still struggling with his injuries, and Angela literally just having her baby, our team was in some rough shape. But that didn’t stop them from continuing to give it their all in order to protect the city from the complete and utter chaos Boyd Taylor and his insane team was out causing. Because they were also giving it their all in order to rob the national reserve bank and unfortunately they were well prepared.
Nothing pissed me off more than when Boyd got away through the tunnels. And nothing made me happier than seeing Aaron okay. This show has proven they don’t hold many qualms about killing characters off. So I would be lying if I said I wasn’t concerned about Aaron not making it. Which is also why I was grateful to see that six week fast forward showing him returning to work. Then I felt like I could breathe a sigh of relief and didn’t have to worry about him encountering any more physical surprises in his recovery.
Family
I love the way that this family continues to get closer. That they are continuing to add more people to it and the bonds between all of them are getting so much stronger. I loved Bailey and John dealing with all the wedding catastrophes that continued popping up. And I loved Tim and Lucy back on patrol together and Tim giving her a hard time to prepare her for her upcoming exam. But I didn’t love them arguing or Lucy doubting herself. Also, are we going to see more of Blair London? Because it would be very exciting to have Danielle Campbell added to the cast as another regular!
