I got the amazing opportunity to listen to Jonah Kagen’s EP release, The Roads, and I was absolutely blown away! This was the first time I had seen or heard of this artist and I was absolutely shocked because I am such a huge fan of folk music that also has some pop and rock elements. I think fans of Noah Kahan are really going to like Jonah Kagen as well. And I love songs that are put together to create therapy in an album. So you know I was into this one from the start! And from the moment I started listening to The Roads, I haven’t been able to stop! So keep reading for my review of all six amazing songs! And be sure you go and check Jonah Kagen and his other music out. Because it’s definitely worth a listen. Or a thousand listens!
The Roads
This one starts out with a beautiful melody and the lyrics just pull you right in from the start. But then there is a bit of a beat drop, when the emotion really hits you. And if you weren’t feeling it before it hits that one minute mark, you certainly will be after! The lyrics are absolutely beautiful and make it clear that Jonah Kagen has a remarkable voice if you didn’t already know that. Which I did not. So as the song went on, I was continuously impressed moment by moment.
Pollution
If you really want to get hit in the heart, then this song is for you. Leaving home, leaving someone behind and moving on in life. But then as you grow up, remembering those things and that person? The hurt that comes from that feels like so much weight.

Many times, with feelings of loss and carrying that weight, comes so many other emotions. Including feeling willing to do anything to get that person and those things back. So when it comes to this song, have some tissues ready. Honestly, you may just want to have the tissues ready for this entire EP.
Save My Soul
This song is about life and our missing half and it definitely hits hard. What it feels like to be alone and without that person. The chords hit me right in my soul and I have a feeling that anyone who has experienced loss of anyone they love may feel the same. Whether they’ve passed away or have left us on their own, loss hurts. And Jonah Kagen has found a way to put words and sound to the emotions some of us may go through when that happens.
Made Up My Mind
This track is a combo of the incredible voice of Jonah Kagen and the equally impressive Lily Meola. She is another artist I had not previously listened to. But thanks to this song, she has absolutely made her way to my favorites list and my music library! And the way their voices seamlessly blend together and complement each other is something I strongly encourage everyone to experience for themselves.
This Life Ain’t Easy
If the title doesn’t already tell you the emotional hit you’re going to experience from this song, then the first few lines of lyrics will. Everyone has their own struggle and different situations they go through. But it’s nice to know that no matter how different each situation may be and how we may deal with it, things like music can find a universal way of making us feel accepted and understood.

And Jonah has certainly found a way to have me feeling that way with his lyrics and sound. So that’s a major reason I feel like he can be in the same category I put Noah Kahan and Zach Bryan in. Many of their songs hit me like individual therapy. And I found Jonah’s songs to be soothing and along those same lines as well.
18
A song about what it’s like to be young. Who doesn’t remember being 18? And all of the experiences we had then, good and bad. Then add in the feelings of young love and what it’s like to maybe experience that first love along with the loss of that love. This song is all about what it would be like to go back knowing what we know now.
