There were definitely a few familiar faces on the singles cruise this week! And I was so happy to see them! But with every cruise, comes a few medical emergencies. Well, at least on this cruise ship. I’m sure not every cruise has medical crises. At least, I hope not. Anyway, there was plenty of hilarity to be had between those medical issues that made this episode an absolute joy to watch. And has me anxiously awaiting the next episode. Which is apparently going to be plastic surgery week. And that might make this week look gentle in comparison. So keep reading for my Doctor Odyssey 1×02 review!
Hidden Stars
Okay, we see you Chord Overstreet. And well played. That was a signature move with getting that girl’s number right out of the gate, I’ll give you that. Plus, I really couldn’t have expected anything less. Because it is a singles cruise after all. And we see you too, Shania Twain! You made a great choice in dancing with the captain, if I do say so myself. And it was adorable to get to see Robert fitting in some time for a little romance. Even though I had a few moments where I wondered if she wasn’t just a widow. But a black widow. Instead, Max diagnosed Robert with broken heart syndrome. The poor guy just misses his wife.
I also should have expected the fighting. But that was honestly something I didn’t see coming. It’s a cruise ship, and one that is a themed singles cruise. I’m sure there are plenty of men to choose from. So instead of spending their limited time fighting over a man, they should just go find another one. Because the chances are, by the time you are done fighting and getting medical treatment for the injuries you got in said fight, the man you were fighting over will have found someone else anyway. But that’s just my thought process. Though I will admit I expected some drama. Just not that kind.
Funny and Not So Funny
It was kind of comical that the captain made the staff dance to help break the ice. And it’s really funny that a bunch of adults who voluntarily (mostly) go on a singles cruise, aren’t willing to dance with strangers. Chord Overstreet’s character was also hilarious. He was pretty gross at the end of the day, but still comical to see. I loved Max calling him out and reminding him the difference between a singles cruise and a swingers cruise. I still don’t think he got the memo if the syphilis epidemic was any indication. But hey, Max tried his best. It was also pretty funny that Avery took off with Chord’s character. Thankfully it helped her figure some things out and she ran from that dude. Like, ran.
Kelly’s situation was very intense. And unexpected. I definitely didn’t see that coming. It was also surprising that between Max, Avery, and Tristan they couldn’t figure things out. At least not at first. But kudos to Avery for putting the pieces together in the end! Then we had Captain Robert who was right back at it from the moment he woke up after passing out and being worked on by the team. Though I really wasn’t all that surprised about it given how devoted he said he was right from he first episode. I still keep wondering what his backstory is and what led him to the Odyssey.
Coming Together
They may have gotten off to a rocky start at first, but Max, Avery, and Tristan have found a way to come together. Tristan is growing on me, for the most part. Max is a bit more willing to look to Avery and Tristan for help. And Avery seems to have relaxed some. Most importantly, they are learning how to trust each other. So I loved that right as I was thinking that, Max commented on it. I’m glad he sees the way they operate together is impressive. And I think it’s good to say it out loud and put it out into the universe. If they are already working this well together in episode two, I can’t wait to see how they continue to progress together for the rest of the season!
