Damon continues to be reckless and if he keeps it up, he is going to end up getting hurt. That’s my concern, anyway. Meanwhile, there were some tense calls and even more tense conversations to be had. One of them between Stella and the new Chief Pascal. Which was completely unfair in my opinion. It’s almost comical that she is getting blamed for people leaving when it’s because of cast members leaving the show. Comical and ridiculous. But mostly ridiculous. So keep reading for my Chicago Fire 13×02 review!
Different Styles, One Team
I really like Damon. But he really needs to freaking shape up. Yes, I understand that he helped save the victim of that horrendous boat crash. And maybe he was right to do what he did because it did result in saving a life. But he hasn’t earned the right to make his own calls yet. And his lieutenant did make a call that he chose not to listen to followed by lying and saying he didn’t hear her. Come on, man. I appreciated the way that Stella handled the situation and let him know that it wasn’t okay. She didn’t rip him a new one or freak out on him. But she handled it well, made it clear it wasn’t okay, and set a boundary that he couldn’t let it happen again. And then we had Severide’s reaction. Which surprised me.

I know that he always supports Stella and he made sure to let her handle Damon after the call. But it surprised me that he let Damon have it to. I definitely feel like it came from a more brotherly perspective than a lieutenant perspective. And it also came from a husband’s perspective. One that wasn’t happy that his little brother blatantly disrespected his wife’s direct order. As if I could love Severide more. Even though he didn’t tell her details about his conversation with Damon, I think it’s okay. I mean, I feel like Stella probably had a pretty good idea that Damon absolutely heard her. But her confrontation with Severide showed that I was completely incorrect about that. I’m still proud of Severide even if Stella did end up mad at him. And I appreciated him saying he didn’t think he and Damon could work in the same house.
Awkward
This episode was full of awkward interactions. We had Herrmann being a total weirdo about what cologne he thought a victim was wearing because Cindy thought it smelled amazing. But it did provide great comic relief in an episode that was otherwise extremely tense. Then we had all the looks between Carver and Violet. I really need these two to stop dancing around each other and just admit how they feel so they can be together and both be happy. The longing looks followed by the awkward looking away from one another when they are caught is just too angsty. I can’t take it anymore. That’s a lot of tension. The two of them clearly need to find their way to a storage closet or something and just go for it.
Other awkward interactions included the one between Severide and Cruz. More than awkward, it was also tense as hell. These feelings about Damon have been building for Cruz for a while. And I think that if he didn’t get them out there, he was going to explode. By the look on Severide’s face, at least one thing Cruz said hit home. I don’t know who is right, or even if one of them is right over the other. Dynamics have changed in the house. In a lot of ways. But I don’t think it’s just Damon. There have been so many people coming and going, it’s impossible for things not to shift and change around.
Pushing Buttons
I got excited when I saw that Pascal’s wife was being played by KaDee Strickland. And then I got even more excited when it seemed that their marriage is on the rocks. Because he’s a major butthead. Every time I have had a moment where I think he may prove to be okay, he just goes ahead and proves that he’s as much of a jerk as ever. I think it’s utterly ridiculous to act like the turnover on her crew had anything to do with Stella. But it is one more reason that I hope everyone currently in the show stays a while. I can’t take anymore exits and apparently, it wouldn’t be very good for Stella either. Unless, of course, the exit was Pascal. But I kind of think he is hanging around for a while. Or maybe not, if he keeps going around punching people for calling his wife.

What did you think of Chicago Fire 13×02? Did you agree with Cruz about Damon? Or do you think he should have just kept his concerns to himself. What did you think about Severide and how he handled the situation with Damon? Were you glad to see that he came clean with Stella in the end? Or did you think that was something that could have been kept on the down low? How much longer do you think Violet and Carver are going to be able to resist each other?
