If you’re reading this, then you should have already seen Twisters. If you haven’t seen the movie, turn back. Because there are going to be so many spoilers. Or maybe you like that kind of thing and want to know what you’re in for before you go. If that’s the case, read on! Just know, you have been warned. I loved this movie way too much not to gush about it. So keep reading for my Twisters review!
A Hit From The Start
I was hooked ten minutes in. Things went from exciting to downright intense and catastrophic. Kate losing everyone so quickly after the movie began was definitely a shock. I would have thought that at least some of them that were out in the field with her would have made it. But I was glad that she at least had Javi, even though they clearly drifted apart during that five year time jump. The only things that I can even remotely criticize about this movie is that we didn’t get that kiss, which can be fixed in a sequel. And that I haven’t already heard about there being a sequel. Other than that, this movie gets a total ten from me.

I was kind of glad that Tyler and Kate were meeting for the first time after Kate returned and didn’t have any previous history. She already had the mess going on with Javi and their history. I also think that part of me expected Tyler to be a pain in the ass who I was going to have to see redeem himself. But actually it was Javi that had to redeem himself after getting into business with Briggs and screwing everyone over. Way to come in and play hero when really you’re just taking all that people have left after they have just been through an extreme tragedy and had more than enough taken from them. So I’m glad that Javi was able to redeem himself because I wasn’t so sure it was going to happen.
What Came Before and What Comes Next
I’m a die-hard Twister fan and it’s one of my all-time favorite movies. Definitely a comfort movie for me, and one I can quote every line. So I’ll admit I was standoffish when I first heard this movie was going to happen. Especially since it seemed no one knew if it was a sequel a reboot, or something else entirely. Even the wildly incredible talent they had in Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones didn’t completely reassure me this was going to be a winner. Though it helped. But then I went and saw it and holy freaking crap. It definitely isn’t a sequel but it had clear Easter eggs from Twister that leads me to believe there is definite lore out there about Bill and Jo. So I’d call it a standalone movie that has connections to our first favorite storm chasing team.

I refuse to believe it ends here. There’s no way we aren’t getting a sequel out of this. Nope. I don’t accept that. Honestly, no matter how cliche, I want a freaking epic kiss at the end. The chemistry between Tyler and Kate was evident the moment they laid eyes on each other and they went through some pretty traumatic events together too. Are those relationships that typically make it? Realistically, no. But that’s why we take these little jaunts into the world of fiction. Kate pulled an epic stunt and sacrificed herself at the end. The utter devastation from Tyler when he thought she was gone showed he knew exactly how he felt. Then he ran out to the field to make sure she was okay? Yeah, that means we should’ve had a kiss. So my belief is we didn’t get one because they’re saving it for the sequel.
Easter Eggs
Trying to find all of the Easter eggs was one of my favorite parts. That was my excuse for why I needed to go to the theater and see it multiple times. I had to make sure I gave it my best shot to try and find every single one of them, right? We didn’t get a Bill and Jo name drop, but we did get a Dorothy name drop at the beginning with the device Kate’s team used in the beginning being called “Dorothy V” as I through IV were used in the original. Bill’s repeated line of “I’m not back” is one of my favorite as everyone just continuously ignores him every single time he says it. And when Kate said it, I gave a little fist pump.

I’m sure it has to do with really getting the adrenaline pumping since you are either sitting in a theater to watch the movie or sitting at the drive in, but Twister and Twisters really seemed to take some joy out of destroying a drive in and a movie theater. Kate had the same intuition that Jo did when it came to tracking storms, which is why part of me really wanted her to be Jo and Bill’s daughter. Then there were some things I’m pretty sure were nods to the original. But they could also be my overactive imagination. Kate dressed just like Jo. Tyler’s truck totally reminded my of Bill’s. I also feel like there was a little homage to the sunflower field that Bill and Jo ran through at the end. But that may really be me stretching!
Movie of the Summer
Okay, so with Deadpool and Wolverine coming out this coming weekend, Twisters probably isn’t going to be THE movie of the summer. But I definitely feel like it’s going to be one of the two movies of the summer. With opening weekend under its belt, it’s clear that this movie is definitely a success. So my hope is that we will see a sequel come out of it. I’m going to keep my eye out in the coming weeks for as long as it stays playing in theaters to see just how much of a success it ends up being. Also, let’s take a freaking second to appreciate that soundtrack! Kane Brown, Bailey Zimmerman, Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Benson Boone, Shania Twain?! That’s amazing and not even close to all the amazing artists on it. So after you’re done checking out the movie, give the soundtrack a listen too.

Have you seen Twisters yet? I sure hope so, if you read all of this review. Otherwise, you have definitely been spoiled! Did this movie have you on the edge of your seat the whole time like it did me? On a scale of 1-10, where do you rate this one? What did you think of the soundtrack? Do you think that we are going to get a sequel? I definitely think we better get one. I want that kiss, dammit!
