Outer Banks Season Four, Part One

‘Outer Banks’ Season Four, Part One Review

Wow, it was a wild first five episodes of the season. I think there was enough action to tide me over until the second half gets released. But it would’ve been nice to binge the entire season in one sitting. Though I do have to admit it makes sense for Netflix to do it this way. Whether I like it or not. At least they were kind enough to give plenty of the content I love to see! All our favorite characters cuddled up and adorable! It was nice that the love side of things was a major focus for the first half of the season. Because that’s where I’m going to keep the focus of my review as well. Before things get crazier! So keep reading for my Outer Banks season four, part one review!

Impulsive Decisions

I love JJ. I’m totally here for JJ. Especially when he and Kiara are together. But I’m not here for his impulsive decisions. I thought we’d moved past at least some of them. And while I knew the Pogues were going to have to lose their money one way or another, I was hoping it wasn’t going to be because of JJ. But he went above and beyond expectations. It wasn’t enough that he overbid on the house, though I at least understand the reasoning behind that one. No, then he had to bet the last of what they had on himself only to lose. Sometimes I’m not sure what’s worse. His impulsive decisions or his ego. I’m almost frustrated that his decisions don’t make me love him any less because I completely understand why he is the way he is and why he does the things he does.

I do think Kiara calms him down. Even when it doesn’t seem it. And despite the circumstances, their time together in the hospital after getting the bends was really sweet. You know, before it went to shit. And I will say, I was surprised to see JJ’s dad again. I thought we weren’t going to. That the ship had sailed with him on it. But here he is. And I can’t help but wonder how that’s going to bite everyone in the ass. Because we know it’s going to. There’s no way around it. And can we talk about Shoupe for a second? I thought after the last few seasons he was going to change his tune and give this group a break. But here he is again, siding with the Kooks. I know JJ threatened them, and he shouldn’t have. But they killed the turtle!

Pay Attention

I love what Pope has found with Cleo and vice versa. The two of them deserve it. And their relationship flows really nicely. They communicate effectively with each other and I love the way they always seem to be touching. But Pope, come on man. You didn’t notice your girl was missing?! I know the text seemed a little convincing but jeez, I would have expected him to at least be a little suspicious and check things out before being told what was going on. And by the kidnapper no less. And I know Pope has had a lot on his mind and always seems to be the one trying to fix and finance everything. But I remain convinced that he should have been immediately suspicious and noticed something happened to Cleo. Just because she is a bad ass who can take care of herself, she still needs help sometimes.

But I will give Pope some points back since he was there for Cleo after Terrance was shot. You could see his heart hurting for her while also being relieved that she was okay. And I feel like he understands her need for revenge. The two of them bring a lot of street and smarts to the team and both of those things are desperately needed. Especially as they get closer to figuring things out with the amulet. Which I can’t wait to see where that leads all of them. And it has been kind of nice to see the group break up just a little bit. Because while I love seeing them together, I like them all getting some time to themselves once in a while too. It was nice to see them get some happy time together and in love for a few minutes.

Forward Movements

Sarah and John B are definitely my personal favorite couple. But that’s because the two of them were always meant to be in my book. And man, is it ever nice to see them not fighting or in turmoil for once. Though I don’t know how long that’s going to last with Rafe’s behavior staying the same and Topper making his stupid comments. Because the Kooks can never seem to just leave the Pogues alone. They always have to antagonize and then play the victim when the Pogues fight back. But we’ll see who gets the final win when the Pogues are once again recognized for their treasure hunting skills. Because we know they are going to figure things out with the amulet and get what they need. It’s just a matter of time and adventure.
