Last week (review here) Rowan attempted to hold a gathering for all Mayfairs in an attempt to protect them and shield them from Lasher but it ended in misery for everyone involved. Jojo and Moira’s sister, Daphne, were thrust into a thrall. Lasher met another supernatural being and learned that not every Mayfair is swept away by his allure.
This week, Mayfair Witches finally dived into the history of Rowan and Lark. Cirprien was double-crossed by Albrecht. Moira and Rowan searched for a way to bring Jojo and Daphne back from the thrall.
Let’s review!
Warning: It’s about to get spoiler-y!

A History of Rowan
Though I think it took a little too long, Rowan (Alexandria Daddario) and Lark’s (Ben Feldman) history was finally revealed. The flashback at the beginning of the episode started sweet but quickly turned sour. Rowan and Lark were working on Rowan’s boat, The Sweet Christine. While she was prepared to take the next step and the two of them move in together, Lark had accepted a job without even telling her until that moment. Rowan did what she did best. She shut him down and out. I can’t blame her. Deciding not to tell someone you’re sharing your life with about huge life changes is a red flag.
Lark was the reason that the Rowan of season 1 didn’t like commitment. The heartache and betrayal she harbored in the flashback was painful, so it makes sense that she wouldn’t want to revisit that again with anyone.

Yet, he’s walked back into her life. Rowan and Lark definitely have sparks between them but with Rowan’s family secrets and Lark’s inability to quell his curiosity, they’re not off to a good start. That was especially the case when Rowan ran off without saying why and Lark took Rowan’s DNA from a cup she drank out of. Isn’t one of the rules to relationships: honesty? They’re not doing a good job.
One thing is for sure, those who get involved in Mayfair business typically end up dead or worse. Lark better be careful with whatever he’s looking for.

The Aftermath
The party is over. The only one who stayed behind with Rowan after the events with Lasher (Jack Huston) and The Talamasca was Moira (Alyssa Jirrels). It wasn’t because she felt an instant sense of sisterhood either. She wanted Jojo (Jen Richards) and Daphne back. The two were still incorporeal and unable to re-enter the physical world.
Unfortunately, without Lasher, Rowan was in a bind. She was quick to remind Moira that this was partly her fault and wasn’t wrong. She made a deal with the Talamasca after all. So, until she got Lasher back, Rowan couldn’t bring Jojo and Daphne back. It’s not the best family bonding experience, but it is an interesting one and tests their abilities.
This was a moment that also showed how alike Rowan and Moira are. The way they bicker and are protective of the people in their lives. They’re also quite headstrong and courageous in their endeavors. They may be at odds now, but they make an unstoppable duo.

Talamasca Holdings
Ciprien went to visit the Talamasca’s newest captive, but Lasher never made it into the cells they have for supernaturals. That didn’t mean we didn’t get to see what other beings were being held down there. By the looks of it, a ghost, a witch, and a vampire. This makes me so excited for the stories that’ll come from the newest Immortals Universe show: The Talamasca.
However, Lasher missing doesn’t bode well for anyone. Ciprien quickly discovered that Albrecht (Dennis Boutsikaris) did exactly what he was afraid of. He once again double-crossed everyone. It wasn’t very surprising, but it was curious. From the beginning of this season, he’s had his eye on Lasher and hasn’t divulged his reasons. He seems to be as beguiled by Lasher as the Mayfairs.

Ciprien was desperate to figure out what his former boss took Lasher. But, per usual, this show managed to remain clever and smart with its characters. Albrecht was several steps ahead of Ciprien, leaving Ciprien to take the fall for everything and face the Talamasca at their headquarters in Amsterdam.

A Crumbling House
Whether it was because of Jojo and Daphne being in a thrall or because Lasher was gone, the Mayfair house was falling to pieces as it was just as affected as Rowan by the loss of Lasher. It was as if the magic in the house had been sapped out.
With Lasher in the wind and Ciprien having no idea where to find him, Rowan turned to a last resort: Cortland (Harry Hamlin). In his charismatic way, he tried to strike a bargain. but failed. He’d do whatever it took to get his daughter back, even turn to stone. Though it wasn’t an option without Lasher, Moira used her mind reading and found out they could talk to his father, Julien. It was drastic since the Mayfair was dead, but that meant nothing for Mayfairs.

Though Cortland was grounded to the house like a child, Moira and Rowan’s adventure continued, bringing them to Dolly Jean’s doorstep. During the Mayfair get-together, Dolly Jean had taken a victrola that once belonged to Julien. It was shocking yet not, to learn that Dolly Jean, Evelyn, and Julien were bonded in a throuple both in life and death. They could contact Julien through the victrola. Another Mayfair secret was revealed.

Taltos
The title of the third book in the Mayfair Witches trilogy. Taltos was a surprising little Easter Egg that made an appearance during this episode and when Moira’s prophetic/mind-reading power was suddenly overtaking her. While she spoke of Taltos in unhinged sentences, Rowan was unwilling to leave her to the pain of it, proving she’s not completely unworthy of the Mayfairs. Dolly Jean and Evelyn felt otherwise, willing to sacrifice Moira and her sanity for whatever information they could get out of her.

For Moira, this was incredibly shocking and instilled some faith between her and Rowan. When everybody else used her and shamed her, Rowan cared. It was enough to solidify a bond between them and for Moira to offer to help Rowan contact Julien.
Hopefully, they will get some answers about what Taltos means. With how Mayfair Magic goes, I expect this to sideways and get complicated like it usually does.
