Last season ended with many losses. Mayfair witches fell and a dark family secret came into the light. Lasher destroyed the Mayfairs that stood in his way of rebirth and bewitched Rowan into setting him free.
The season premiere offered a prologue into the second book of the Mayfair Witches: Lasher. We’re looking forward to the wild journey coming this season curious about how it’ll be expanded.
In this episode, Lasher challenges Rowan in many ways, Rowan struggles with her mother’s intuition and More Mayfairs are introduced.
Let’s review!
Warning: It’s about to get spoiler-y!

They Grow Up So Fast
This premiere didn’t hold back. Three days have passed since Rowan gave Lasher a body through birth and he’s growing at a terrifying rate. The keyword there is definitely terrifying. Lasher pulled his teeth out in front of Rowan as if it was a fun activity. Though he didn’t remember everything before receiving his body, he wanted to and he wanted the magic he gave to Rowan. There were even hints that he wanted even more than that.
Dolly Jean (Charlayne Woodard) on the other hand believes this to be a miracle, Rowan isn’t so sure. Frankly, neither am I. Even the Mayfair ghost, Millie is shaken. As they say, once a demon, always a demon.
After getting a body, what will Lasher do next? Rowan can’t keep him in the shadows forever and he’s bound to return to his old self, isn’t he?

Not a Sin to Kill the Devil
Rowan faces a major struggle throughout the majority of the episode. Though her instinct as a mother is to protect her son, she wonders if she should put an end to Lasher before he’s fully grown and it’s too late. That instinct was so well received. The way it tore her in half was heartbreaking. A mother only wants to protect her child but this one may just try to kill her or others.
She’s put protective charms and spells on the house so nobody can get to Lasher. But, that struggle found her hovering over the boy multiple times, nearly using her magic to put him out of his misery.
Unfortunately, there are those that would see Lasher flourish, like Dolly Jean, and those that would see his demise. Lines will definitely be drawn in time. I can’t help but wonder which side Rowan will take.

A New Mayfair in Town
With a new season comes new faces! It’s exciting to see more Mayfairs join the show. Moira Mayfair (Alyssa Jirrels, Fatal Attraction) comes home after Tessa’s death and it’s no secret that she’s not a fan of Lasher, but she does have one of the most treasured abilities anywhere. She can read minds. That ability also earned Moira ill treatment from most of her family. Nobody likes to have their thoughts put on blast, not that it can be helped. But, for Moira, a little music puts that on mute.
It’s obvious that Moira is inspired by Mona Mayfair, but it’s incredible how quickly Moira comes into her own individuality.
Sure, she’s mostly stirring the pot and looking for someone to blame for the loss of Tessa in this episode, but she’s got that same fire Rowan has. Much like Rowan, Moira is sure to stir things up for the Mayfairs, and maybe light the way for us to meet even more witches of the family.

On the Lamb
Ciprien (Tongayi Chirisa) is still hiding out from The Talamasca, but he doesn’t seem to be very good at it. Not only do they find him in some rundown motel but they know he’s been trying to find a way to reach Rowan and get here away from Lasher. While we admire him for his determination to help Rowan and disregard for Talamascan rules, he needs to come out of hiding if he hopes to help anyone.
That’s precisely what Albrecht (Dennis Boutsikaris) got at when he proposed a new mission for Ciprien. The Talamasca believe there’s a Mayfair that will help them capture Lasher before the demon is out of their reach. Hopefully, this will help Ciprien get his mojo back so he can help Rowan because this side of Ciprien is sad.
Also, this could be the start of a potentially great partnership.

Old Colleagues
Another new face joined the cast when Rowan called an old friend looking for help to test Lasher’s blood and find out the reasons behind his sporadic growth spurts. Lark (Ben Feldman: Superstore) sounded like more than an old friend. Possibly an old flame of Rowan’s?
Though the introduction was short, the interaction between Rowan and Lark definitely sparked our interest.
We can’t help but wonder what Lark may find with that blood sample and what he’ll do about it?

Of Sons and Fathers
Throughout the majority of the episode, Rowan sought answers to a question everyone has been asking. What does Lasher want?
Rowan almost dared to ask Cortland (Harry Hamlin). Turns out, she stashed him in the basement, and inside all of his statuesque glory, he’s actually alive. Understandably, Rowan wasn’t ready to face him just yet. Maybe with Jojo (Jen Richards), they can confront him about Lasher and Dierdre. Hopefully, that’ll be sooner rather than later.
By the end of the episode, it’s nearly been a week and Lasher is a teenage boy on the cusp of becoming a man. After trying to kiss Rowan and tell her how he loves her-giving everybody the heebie-jeebies in the process-he goes out on the town. He returned home with a dead girl and no idea as to how he killed her. For Rowan, this was just another secret to drown, proving she still protects Lasher even though he’s returning to his old demonic self. Something tells me she’ll be regretting this.
