It feels like forever since Morgan and Karadec have graced our screens, so we were more than ready to have them back. And they didn’t waste any time getting right back into the groove of things! But I wouldn’t be mad if we could get out of the groove of this Game Maker situation. I have so had enough of that guy and can’t wait for that storyline to wrap up. I’m sure some people wouldn’t mind seeing it continue for half of the season, but I am definitely not one of them. I just want this guy to be out of the picture completely. There are bigger fish to fry this season, like the continuing search for Morgan’s ex. So keep reading for my High Potential 2×01 review!
Together Again
I was so excited to see Morgan and Karadec back together as partners. It was clear that he worked better when she was around and I’m glad that the others on the team see it as well. But I think Karadec does a lot more for Morgan as well, and I don’t think she realizes it yet. The way he is able to calm her with a look and an exhale when she is spiraling and can’t get her brain to slow down in the moment. He just seems to read her so well and is always looking out for her. But he did frustrate me a little when he slightly questioned her seeing the Game Maker. He knows how smart she is and how her brain works, he knows that if she says she saw him, she damn well did and he knows it.

I loved that Soto was quick to tell the team about how she originally got Morgan involved with the precinct. She knew it was time to let them in on what has been going on and ask for help. But more than that, I love the way that Oz and Daphne immediately stepped up with no hesitation. They were willing to do anything to help Morgan out and they didn’t hide that they now knew the truth. I also greatly appreciated that Morgan wasn’t upset with Soto for telling the rest of the team what they agreed to when she first joined them as a consultant. That could have been a very cliche moment for them to create tension within the team and I’m glad they instead used it as an opportunity to show how tight they are as a team.
Mystery of the Week
We of course always know the character that is going to be in trouble at the beginning of the episode. But Maya was really doing all of the things you shouldn’t. Going to a club alone, leaving the club alone, and walking alone through a city area in the dark. And I don’t just mean that’s something women shouldn’t do. That’s just something that is always risky. But you take those risks at your own will, I suppose. Though if I were her, that stereotypical white van in the parking lot certainly would have given me pause. And I know that we should all be able to go out and do as we please and live our best lives as Maya seemed to be doing, but we just don’t. But I’ve probably watched way too many horror movies and crime shows.
I was hoping that maya was going to be okay and that they were going to find her alive and well. But we didn’t even get to see if that’s how the situation ended. Honestly, the end of the first episode kind of feels like it could have also been the first season finale with a cliffhanger like that. I mean, the Game Maker strolling right into the precinct so casually and with that damn smirk on his face? Yeah, definitely season finale material. But lucky for us, we only have to wait a week to see how all of that turns out. At least, I hope so anyway. I feel like there are an awful lot of loose ends that now have to be tied up with the next episode and I’m a bit worried it’s going to feel rushed.
Twists and Turns
Clearly this show is only getting better with red herrings. I feel like I didn’t know what the hell was happening from one moment to the next. At first, I was convinced it was going to be just another one of the Game Maker’s games, which it still just might be. Then I definitely got bad guy, creepy vibes off of Jason and thought he was responsible. But come to find out, he was actually a target instead of a suspect? Yup, that one threw me way off. Then you add in that Maya’s husband was being more than a little suspicious and I was like okay. maybe he is involved. But then it seemed as if he had been played as well. By none other than the Game Maker. Which circled me back around to the whole thing being one of his games.
