Wow! It’s been a hot minute. Or a few hot minutes! This has been a busy summer for our Cape & Castle family personally and professionally. But it sure has felt like a quiet TV season. We are all definitely more than ready to be back, myself especially! And taking a look at what’s coming, I think we are in for a very busy Fall 2025. Depending on what your chosen genre or network may be. I’m sure that there are going to be plenty of shows I miss, and keep in mind I am only focusing on scripted television, but I’ll do my best to give you the low-down on as many as I could track down! So keep reading for what to expect and when to expect it!
ABC Ending and Beginning
Let’s start off with what we have lost because I am ridiculously upset about it. Doctor Odyssey will not be returning for a second season. I’m not sure who made the decision to cut this kick-ass drama short, but I can assure you, their name will be on my shit list. I guess I’ll just have to rewatch the first season for my Joshua Jackson needs. My mourning would be over a lot quicker if that new movie with he and Katie Holmes dropped. Sigh. But I digress. Let’s shift gears and talk about a little something new coming our way.

We’re getting a new spinoff in the 9-1-1 world, 9-1-1: Nashville. And you can bet we’re going to be covering it. Maybe it will fill the hole left in our hearts after losing 9-1-1: Lone Star. I’m certainly holding out hope! It’s giving us Chris O’Donnell and Jessica Capshaw, so it’s at the very least off to a good start. And it’s set in Tennessee. I’m hopeful that means we are going to be getting some sweet musical guests coming and going. And I’m definitely very interested to meet the rest of the crew! If you’re looking forward to this one too, be prepared for October 9th when it drops!
ABC Returns
As for Fall 2025 returns, we of course have High Potential hitting our screens once again on September 16th! If you haven’t caught the first season of this kick-ass procedural comedy, head over to Hulu and get caught up! For me, the countdown is literally on to see Morgan and Karadec back on my screen with their sizzling chemistry and I can’t wait to write the reviews. Shifting Gears will also be making its return on October 1st and there is so much I want to see from the second season, I’m not sure where to start. But I am sure we will be covering it!

October 16th is going to bring us back 9-1-1. And while I still haven’t forgiven them for Bobby and probably never will, I’ll admit I will still be sitting in front of my screen for it. And one of our writers will be keeping you caught up in case you aren’t quite ready to watch. If you aren’t, I totally understand. To be honest, there is a good chance that I will rely on our amazing writer Liz to keep up with the episodes for a bit. But it does help that the Nashville spinoff will be following after it in the schedule.
What CBS Has Taken and Given
CBS seemed to be on a bit of a cancelling spree that still has my head spinning. We’ve lost The Equalizer, FBI: International, FBI: Most Wanted, AND S.W.A.T.! I’m not sure which one I’m the angriest about. Or the saddest, I suppose. All good things must come to an end, I guess. But I wasn’t ready for a few of these to go just yet. Definitely a few series that I will be streaming from time to time for the nostalgia of them and the characters they brought to life.

What they’re giving us is Boston Blue, at least that’s what they’re calling it for now. Which is our Donnie Wahlberg led Blue Bloods spinoff. I love Donnie Wahlberg but this is one I’m still on the fence about. I’ll give it a shot and hope I love it. We also have Sheriff Country, our Fire Country spinoff and it’s yet another one I’m on the fence about but willing to give a shot. It seems we have replaced our lost FBI shows with CIA. And honestly? I can get down with it since Tom Ellis is taking the lead. It doesn’t seem like there is much more info about it, but Tom Ellis is all I really need to know!
CBS Returning Lineup
Well, at least we have the original FBI coming to our screens on October 13th. Let’s hope it offers enough to help us forget we’ve lost the other two. October 14th is coming in hot with NCIS, NCIS: Origins, and NCIS: Sydney returning back to back to back! CBS is keeping the laughs coming on October 16th with their lineup of Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage kicking it off and followed by Ghosts. That’s one hell of a start to the week!

So let’s look at how we’re ending our Fall 2025 work week starting October 17th. CBS is sticking with the Blue Bloods tradition and putting Boston Blue on our late night Friday spot beginning October 17th. But before that, we’re getting a back to back with Fire Country and Sheriff Country. And CBS is always out here supporting us through the end of the weekend with Tracker sliding back into Sunday nights beginning October 19th. There are a few that don’t quite have kickoff dates yet, but it’s a start. And I can’t be made about the lineup we have since it looks like CBS is going to keep themselves in the running as a powerhouse network this Fall.
FOX Bringing the Axe Down
Wow, FOX came in a bit heavy handed, canceling Rescue: HI-Surf, 9-1-1: Lone Star, and The Cleaning Lady. And I’ll be honest, I have some mixed emotions here. I completely understand and kind of predicted the end of The Cleaning Lady. The tragic loss of Adan Canto made it difficult for me to continue watching. It just wasn’t the same without him. I was here for the chemistry between him and Elodie Yung and the developing relationship between Thony and Arman. But I am livid about the other two. You saved 9-1-1: Lone Star only to dash our hopes by turning around and cancelling it?! No thank you, FOX. And damn, give poor Rescue: HI-Surf a chance to get started and catch their wave.

And on top of that you are only giving us one new show for Fall 2025! One! I don’t know, I’m not really happy with FOX at the moment. I’m sure I’ll get over it when everything comes back. But for now, I’m going to be very childish and bitter about it. And you’re leaving me questioning how I feel about that one new show, Best Medicine. It seems like it will be a one hour comedy and I’m just not sure I’m ready to laugh with you yet, FOX. But I guess we will see and I’m willing to watch before I make a full judgment.
FOX Animation Domination Dominating
On the plus side, it looks like FOX is going to keep things going with what they know and a genre they pretty much have the corner market on. They’re keeping it going with Sunday nights and their powerful lineup of The Simpsons, Universal Basic Guys, Krapopolis, and ending the evening with Bob’s Burgers. And it all kicks off September 28th!

They also let us keep Murder in a Small Town which I’m pretty happy about. This mystery series returns on September 23rd, which will be here before we know it. But it also feels like this is kind of the only scripted live-action they’ve really got going on. Though they are also kind of our sports central network for football season, so I will definitely cut them some slack there. They’re keeping us entertained for sure, just not quite in the ways we’ve been used to.
NBC Comings and Goings
NBC was another that was coming in hot on the hopping block. And usually I respect that. But I don’t respect them cancelling Suits LA. Okay, I know it got off to a rough start, but we’ve got to give these shows some time to find their footing before we just can them. We’ve also lost The Irrational, Grosse Pointe Garden Society, and Found. Those last two also have me mad and I don’t have anything nice to say about them being gone so I’m going to leave it there.

For Fall 2025 newbies, we are getting The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins and I will admit that I’m excited to see Daniel Radcliffe, especially in a television show capacity. Add to that it’s a comedy about football that also seems to have a lot of heart and I’m sold. An added bonus or two is that we are also getting Tracy Morgan is the titular character and Erika Alexander along with Bobby Moynihan. So I know it’s going to have me cracking up.
NBC Returns
Law & Order will be dominating Fall 2025 Thursday nights beginning September 25th with the original series kicking things off and being followed by Law & Order: SVU, and ending with Law & Order: Organized Crime. And one thing I will give NBC is that they dominate with their power hours. Because they’re at it once again beginning Wednesday October 1st with some of our favorites Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and ending the night with Chicago PD. And rest assured, we will still be covering those!

As far as scripted shows, at least from the drama end of things, that’s pretty much it. And while they NBC could have spread things out and kept us occupied just about every night of the week, I kind of like all the back to back to back. Grab your snacks, cozy up, and settle in because you’re gearing up for three hours of intensity on two nights of the week. And I think there is something pretty cool about that. So I’ll forgive them for their transgressions. A little.
The CW Ups and Downs
So The CW cancelled only one of our favorites, Superman & Lois. And honestly, I can’t even be that mad about it. Because I get it. It was kind of the last show standing from our superhero era. And while it is sad to see the end of an era, I get it. And it certainly did have one hell of a beautiful run. So they’ve made it hard to be mad at them. Even if they aren’t giving us anything new either. That’s okay, just as long as they bring back the rest of my favorites.

Speaking of, what the heck CW? Where is your schedule? What is happening? We know that Sullivan’s Crossing and All-American are returning. But what is this about not being sure if you will air Wild Cards? Nay-nay, CW. With the next season of my all-time favorite happening, you better be broadcasting it! You know it’s one of the best shows out there! I will find a Canadian friend and go there and watch it every week if I have to, but I WILL be watching it. And I’ll be very upset if you don’t air it. And get your Fall 2025 schedule put together already!
