‘Doctor Odyssey’ 1×04 Review: “Wellness Week”

We got the pleasure of seeing some of our favorite cruise ship crew members playing poker. Strip poker at that. And that was just where the episode began! This week was wellness week and things certainly got intense. There were a lot of differing opinions about health and wellness happening. And there was also a pretty severe storm that the cruise ship was heading right into. Plus, Avery ended up needing an emergency surgery. While the storm was raging at its hardest. But she had Max and Tristan on her side, what could go wrong? So keep reading for my Doctor Odyssey 1×04 review!

Storms Raging

I wasn’t too worried when they were talking about a possible tropical storm off in the distance. Captain Robert didn’t seem too concerned about things, and he’s the one in charge of making the calls. So I wasn’t really concerned, either. But  then Captain Robert very quickly became concerned and that had me feeling the same way. Things went from bad to worse as the storm raged harder and harder. I’m sure glad that Robert is the kind of captain he is that he kept himself calm and cool while taking on the storm like the professional that he clearly is. I may have been on the fence about him in the first couple of episodes. But he is most definitely someone I would want on my side during a crisis.

I thought we were done with the back and forth between Max and Tristan. At this point, I’m starting to blame Avery. Tristan made a great point when he said that she had rejected him. He did his part. He accepted it and moved on. But then she was definitely acting jealous of him and Vivian hitting it off. Personally, in my opinion, she is much better off with Max. Tristan and her have more of a sibling vibe to me and it’s kind of weird when they act any other way with each other. And it’s an issue that is going to continue coming up if Avery doesn’t decide what she wants. Even if she decides she doesn’t want either of them and just wants to put herself first, that’s fine. But she needs to make up her mind.

Alternative Beliefs and Medicine

It’s pretty difficult to treat someone when they are against all technology and any semblance of Western medicine. I understand that there are differing opinions. And that some people believe strictly in alternative medicine and go for a more spiritual and natural approach. Which is perfectly fine and completely their prerogative. But in a situation where you are on a cruise ship, there are a limited amount of options available. So you kind of need to accept what is available and what the onboard medical professional is advising and providing to you. If you want your life to be saved, that is.

Avery’s appendix picked the worst possible time to burst. The midst of the storm certainly made the surgery a difficult one. But luckily, she had Max and Tristan teaming up to operate on her. And I can’t think of a better team to be trusting your life with. They were going to do everything they could to ensure that she made it out of this surgery okay. With the communication and navigating of Robert, they were able to work together seamlessly to ensure that everything was done as safely as possible. Though, with their current situation, that wasn’t very safe. But they got her through.

Troublemakers of the Week

Tristan and Vivian had all the vibes going on between them from the moment Vivian stepped onto the ship. But I wasn’t too sure about her idea of cuisine and how to prepare it. Though I don’t think she did anything to deserve the ire from Bethany. Jeez. And then Bethany was causing more harm than good with all of her methods. Not just to herself, but to the general health of the ship. Max and Tristan were able to get her out of their way while they did what needed to be done. And then take care of her after the worst had passed. Turns out she had copper poisonings. So maybe a little less of seeing auras and more having her vision skewed.
