‘Chicago Fire’ 13×04 Review: “Through the Skin”

Violet and Lyla take a call that involves them working outside their scope of practice. But they did so in the name of maintaining their vows to do whatever is necessary to save lives. And then we had Stella, who was still being given grief by Dom. Even more than he already has been and I still don’t get why. We also had Sam’s girlfriend, Tori, making the decision to stay in Chicago for a while because she thinks she makes Carver better. But the evidence is showing that is absolutely not the case and instead the opposite may actually be true. So keep reading for my Chicago Fire 13×04 review!

Emergencies and Issues

The kid hung up on the powerlines was giving me major anxiety just watching. But I had no concerns that Stella was going to stay on top of things and handle them like the professional that she is. And I was glad that she had Carver at her back to assist her. The situation would have been drastic and dangerous regardless. But the fact that it was a young child definitely made things more difficult. I will say I’m glad the situation didn’t last long because it was definitely one that had me on the edge of my seat. Sometimes it’s nice when we get these quick emergencies that may be adrenaline-inducing but handled quickly and efficiently.

I do not understand just what exactly Dom’s issue with Kidd is. Because it seems like he has more of a problem with her every episode we see him. How could he be so compassionate with Violet and her situation and yet be so gruff and difficult with Stella in hers? He even went so far out of his way that he apologized to the man he just sucker punched just so he could turn around and ask him a favor. I understand that she has a high turnover rate, but I also thought we had already made it clear that wasn’t her fault. And it seemed like Dom was going to lighten up on her after this. Instead, he seems to be coming down on her harder than ever. I mean, what the heck am I missing here?

Not a Good Fit

I definitely don’t think Carver is headed in a very good direction in his relationship with Tori. And I really think it’s a terrible idea for her to make the decision to stay in Chicago. A little full of herself telling Carver that she feels she makes him better. Yeah, okay. You go ahead and keep telling yourself that ,Tori. But I’m going to sit here and think we are looking at a Grant situation. Because Tori seems like it won’t take much to push her over the edge. And I’m worried that she is going to do that with Violet as her target. Maybe I’m looking at things in a more dramatic view and am way off. But her making a bourbon shake early in the morning sure didn’t inspire confidence in her making good choices.

And Tori’s lack of tact at the bar really cinched the deal. Violet is clearly struggling with her situation and the rest of the crew was trying to offer their input and support. No one needed Tori to come in and change the subject. Her best bet would have been to mind her business. And I’m sorry, but Sam didn’t really help in the situation either. Did Violet need to go off and hit Tori with what she asked for? Probably not. But I also kind of feel like it’s common sense not to ask a freaking paramedic and a group of firefighters in a busy city what the worst thing they’ve ever seen is. Because the chances are probably pretty good that they’ve seen some horrendous things. As Violet expressed to her.

At All Costs

Then we had Violet and Lyla delivering a baby when the mother had already passed away. And that was a pretty tense situation that could have ended very differently. It was a pretty close call regardless. But I was glad that if they couldn’t save the young woman, they were able to save her little girl. They put their careers on the line but they did what they had to do. And it was complete bullshit that she got suspended. I get that what they did was outside their scope of practice, but if they hadn’t that baby would have died. Violet attempted to get another ambulance and team out but they wouldn’t have made it there on time. What reasonable choice did Violet have? She made a vow to save lives and that’s what she did.
