Hannah helps to cook for a reunion and of course, one of the guests ends up murdered. While Hannah would be on the case anyway, she feels like it’s more important than ever that she solve this one. Because Lonnie is a main suspect since he was the last one to see the victim. Chad and Hannah continue to butt heads while both trying to solve the case. Along with flirting every single time they see each other. So keep reading for my A Sprinkle of Deceit: A Hannah Swensen Mystery review!
Feeling the Love
First of all, can I just say that Lonnie and Michelle are freaking adorable? I am absolutely loving the relationship between them. Lonnie is aware of how amazing Michelle is and isn’t afraid to tell her. And when Michelle confronts him about his previous relationship with Darcy, I appreciate that he didn’t get defensive. He explained his thought process for why he didn’t say anything to her previously. And he apologizes and admits that he was wrong for it. Michelle also didn’t come at him guns blazing and yelling at him. She asked him about it and let him talk to her. I really like their healthy relationship. And I can’t wait to see what comes next for them.

I love Mike. So don’t get me wrong on that. But if we have to accept that he isn’t coming back to these mysteries then I’m glad that we get to have Chad. Because he actually seems pretty great. And I like that he is able to give Hannah a run for her money. I also like that he can’t resist making sure she is okay. It’s nice to see that instead of telling her to stay out of things just because they are dangerous, he explains that he wants her to stay out because things need to be done by the book. It at least made sense. Hannah is going to get involved no matter how dangerous something is so it’s pointless to waste your breath telling her that.
A Little Help
I absolutely loved that the sheriff admitted to Chad that Hannah has been an important part of cases in the past. And he acknowledged the way she seems to see things differently and that it has been a key to solving cases. Chad seemed to understand that, whether he wanted to admit it or not. So I’m hopeful that as we get a few more movies, he starts to see how useful Hannah’s skills can be and starts coming to her for help instead of encouraging her away from the cases. If she is going to investigate them anyway, you may as well share information with each other instead of working against each other.
I used to feel really resistant when Hannah’s mother would attempt to help. Because I think she would get distracted by how worried for Hannah she would become. But I understand that she has to sit by and watch her daughter put herself in danger. So when she was able to overcome some of that fear and start actively assisting Hannah in the investigations, that’s when I jumped fully onboard with her helping. It helped that she became a private investigator. And I like that it has kind of become a full family affair. Andrea, Michelle, and their mother all get involved with helping Hannah solve cases and I’m kind of fully into it now.
Whodunit
Of course I knew that Lonnie did not kill Darcy. I was absolutely suspicious of her boyfriend. But I did feel like that was a little obvious since we watched them fight. And then I was suspicious of her boss, following with Hannah’s trail of evidence and her thoughts. Then I started getting suspicious of Cass. But only after she seemed to be giving Hannah some weird vibes about halfway through when Hannah was questioning her. She seemed to be working really hard to point the finger at others. Almost too hard. But I still wasn’t sure until she confronted Hannah with a gun and admitted to killing Darcy. Thankfully, Chad got there in time to protect Hannah and have Cass taken in.
