‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ 5×02 Review: “Trainwrecks”

'9-1-1: Lone Star' 5x02

This might be the last season, but that doesn’t mean anything is slowing down. Paul and Marjan were still vying for Judd’s job. But not with much success, since Owen couldn’t seem to make a freaking decision! Meanwhile, Judd finally came to his senses to get his job back, only to have his hopes shot down. And then we had train causing absolute pandemonium by literally flying off the rails! Things certainly got intense from there. And oh yeah, Tommy proposed to Trevor! And he said yes! But with one very odd, very specific, and very debatable request. So keep reading for my 9-1-1: Lone Star 5×02 review!

Speaking Up

Usually I’m pretty against people speaking for others. Unless they can’t do it for themselves. I’m all about helping them advocate for themselves and supporting them. But in this situation, I was in full support of Wyatt talking to Owen for his dad. It didn’t turn out the way I hoped, but I was still really proud of Wyatt for doing it. And I completely understood why he felt compelled to do it and where he was coming from. Though I also understood where Owen was coming from with his response. Even if it really wasn’t what I wanted to hear, I couldn’t help but agree with him. So it looked like Judd really wasn’t going to be able to get his job back at the 126. At least not right now. Which made me exceedingly frustrated. I better not have to go the final season without having Judd front and center!

Marjan and Paul didn’t hesitate to speak up about wanting to take Judd’s spot. And honestly, I don’t know which one of them I would pick. So I completely understood Owen’s hesitation and struggle to choose between them. I probably would have done the same as him by letting their test scores decide. That seemed like a pretty safe bet. But I should have known better than that. Because of course they both tied to set the all-time high record on the test. I think we all knew in that moment the best and easiest answer would be to just give Judd his freaking job back! But no decision got made this episode and instead we were left with a freaking cliffhanger. Marjan better be fine!

Life Decisions

I probably shouldn’t be surprised that Tommy proposed to Trevor. But I kind of was. I knew that this show was going to have me tearing up at least once in every episode. But I should have known better to think it was only going to be sad tears. My heart has broken over and over again for Tommy while also being in awe of her character and how she has overcome so much. She deserves happiness. And if she feels that she has that with Trevor, who honestly seems to truly love her so much, then she deserves that. And now I’m left hoping that we get a wedding in this final season, because what could be better than that?!

Things were definitely rocky after the proposal. And I was pretty frustrated and on the edge of my seat trying to find out what the hell Trevor said. With the way Tommy was acting, I was sure his “but” was going to be something terrible. And it kind of was. But I guess in a strange sort of way, I kind of understood why Trevor asked her to allow his ex-wife to vet Tommy. Though Tommy also had a point when she drew the line at herself and wasn’t a fan of having her girls subjected to another woman’s approval.

Trainwrecks

The train going off the rails was just one example of the many trainwrecks happening in this episode. Between Owen not being able to decide who to choose for Judd’s position, Trevor’s weird request before agreeing to marry Tommy, and Owen being a butthead about letting Judd have his freaking job back, there was a lot going on. But the actual trainwreck did bring problems of its own. A young man just trying to get to his brother who just made it through a risky surgery, to another man just trying to make a living so he doesn’t have to miss anymore of his daughter’s recitals. It was a freaking nightmare and unlocked a new fear that I didn’t even know I had. So thank you so very much for that. I’m sure I’ll have a nightmare about it later. And will never be able to look at another train the same way again.

What did you think of 9-1-1: Lone Star 5×02? Did the train going literally off the rails unlock a new fear in you like it did in me? What did you think of Trevor’s request of Tommy? Was it reasonable? Or was it just plain ridiculous? What about Wyatt trying to help Judd get his job back? Should he have just stayed out of it? Or was he doing the right thing? And what about Owen? Do you think he should have just given Judd his job back? Or was he right about things? Who would you have picked? Marjan or Paul? Or would you have chosen Mateo?
