‘Ghosts’ 1×01: “Pilot” and 1×02: “Hello!” Review
The time has come for this new CBS comedy to premiere and I was so freaking excited! As an added bonus, we got the first two episodes back-to-back. And I certainly wasn’t disappointed. One episode would have been amazing as it set the stage pretty quickly. But getting to see the second episode and the immediate after-effects of what happened in the pilot episode made it so much better! So keep reading for my Ghosts 1×01 and 1×02 review!
Meet the New Owners
The premiere didn’t waste any time getting into the thick of things. Samantha’s relative passed away and that meant that her home was left to Samantha. Which meant that she and her husband, Jay, had some big decisions to make. I’m all about taking a huge home and beautiful home and turning it into a bed and breakfast. But Jay definitely wasn’t about it. And while I understand where Jay was coming from and why he would be hesitant, Sam also had a point. Just because Jay didn’t want to make the move shouldn’t have meant that was the final decision. Though Sam did find an effective way to end the argument. By falling down the stairs and all.

But I wouldn’t recommend using that to end an argument in the future. Even if it did give Sam the added bonus of being able to see all of the ghosts that reside in the house. Well, she definitely didn’t think of it as an added bonus at the time, but I think it would be pretty freaking cool if I were in her shoes. After I got over the initial shock of it all, of course. Because I definitely would also have been scared to see a bunch of people walking through the walls of my bedroom. But after that, it would definitely be cool. So I was sure that Sam would adjust to it in no time.
Meet the Ghosts
I was kind of surprised at how many ghosts they had running around the house. It makes for a big cast and a whole lot of backstories. But it also made for a fun group. Because there were a lot of different personalities all coming together when it came to interacting with living beings who came to the house. I will admit that it also made it possible to cover a wide range of time periods. Because we’ve got someone from the Viking era to what seemed to be pretty close to the present. Which naturally, was the one without the pants. With plenty of time periods in between.
I haven’t seen enough of the ghosts to pick which one is going to be my favorite. And they have all had enough witty one-liners for me to already like them as an ensemble. And while it didn’t take much time for Sam to gain the ability to see the ghosts, I haven’t been able to see Sam really accepting of the ghosts and interacting with them on a familiar basis. And that’s something I’m definitely looking forward to. I want to see how Sam gets along with each of them and maybe how she’s going to help them.
Moving On
It’s going to be a lot of fun watching Sam and Jay working on the house to turn it into a bed and breakfast. But I think it’s going to be just as fun to watch Sam help the ghosts to move on. At least, I’m assuming that’s going to play at least some part in all of this. I’m assuming that’s part of why there are so many ghosts. Because being able to interact and communicate with Sam is going to give the ghosts an added way of learning what they need to do in order to move on. Then again, if that were the case, Sam would eventually run out of ghosts around the mansion to help move on.
