‘Mystery 101: Deadly History’ Review

First of all, can I just say wow?! I always have high expectations for Kristoffer Polaha and Jill Wagner and they exceed those expectations every single time. But this time, they blew my expectations out of the water. They’re just constantly stepping their game up with these movies and I never stop being impressed. I just want more and more! So if you haven’t seen Mystery 101: Deadly History and don’t want to be spoiled, turn back now. Because there are going to be more than a few spoilers ahead! Otherwise, carry on!

They Will

As expected, there was a little will they or won’t they happening at the beginning of this series. Though I will say that didn’t last too long. Because it more turned into a when will they situation. And even that didn’t last long. Amy and Travis have been steadily moving toward each other from the moment they met and it’s been an incredible and beautiful journey to watch. But this latest film had my favorite moment between them so far. They finally told one another how they felt! I feel like I’ve been waiting to hear them tell each other “I love you” forever! But the moment was absolutely perfect and had me swooning so hard! Plus, what has become their love theme playing in the background? Be still my freaking heart! Once again it had me eager for the next film to see where they would go from here.

But for the first time, we got a little glimpse into the future at the end of this one. And it certainly isn’t bright. When they fast-tracked to eleven months later, I knew it wasn’t going to be anything good. And when they revealed that Amy was engaged to someone who wasn’t Travis, my freaking heart dropped. I was honestly in a state of denial and I might still be there. There must be something else going on because no way in hell do I see Travis and Amy rationally breaking up and Amy getting engaged at all. Much less within eleven months. And containing my curiosity until the next installment just may drive me crazy! They’ve been doing so well and Hallmark is all about the happy endings, so I need to know just what the hell is going on here!

The Mystery and Location

I actually live pretty close to Ithaca, New York! So it was really cool to have this movie be set somewhere fairly local to me! Recognizing a few of the shots like the one of Ithaca Falls was pretty awesome. And the mention of the college. On top of that, I really liked that this mystery was a little different than the ones before. While there was a murder, it wasn’t the main focal point of the movie, the disappearance and kidnapping of Amy’s very much alive uncle was. And while I love a good murder mystery, I’m also always game for a little bit of a change-up. And this was done super well! At least, I sure thought so.

And while there were a few things that were predictable, there was just as much that wasn’t. The fact that they had Amy, Travis, and Graham go all the way to New York also has me wondering where else they may go in future movies. Because we all know they aren’t even close to done with this series yet. At least, they better not be! Travis being in his home jurisdiction is always fun and I wouldn’t ever want to stray too far away from that. But seeing them in a different setting every now and then while also learning a bit more about the characters along the way because of the location always makes for a great addition to any of the movies.

Questions and Disbelief

I’m not sure how I feel about the way things ended. I would’ve loved a little flash-forward. But I didn’t love the one we got. Travis and Amy are meant to be and I refuse to believe anything else. Call it denial or whatever you want, I just refuse. I also find it insanely suspicious that in eleven months, after telling Travis she loves him, Amy is no longer with Travis and is instead engaged to someone else. It’s taken forever for her and Travis to get together! So no way has she just jumped in with both feet with some other dude. Another thing I find insanely suspicious is that the mysterious man Amy apparently jumped into things with so quickly is a murder victim? Yeah, something is definitely amiss here and they better not leave any of us hanging for too long before giving us some freaking answers!

What did you think about Mystery 101: Deadly History? Do you believe for one second that Amy and Travis really just broke up? Or do you think there is something else going on? Why do you think we were given a flash-forward with this installment when we’ve never been given one before? Does that also make you a little suspicious? Is there something else going on under the surface? Who is this mysterious man Amy is apparently going to get engaged to within the next eleven months? I completely agree!! It has taken Amy & Travis a year or more to get where they are. And that’s even after facing life/death situations which can escalate emotions & fast track connections. No WAY do they confess love for one another then break up & somehow get engaged w/in 11 months. Personally I think it’s related to a case or something & maybe they had to make the break up look real so not even his partner or Graham know it’s for show. They look awkward in the exchange at the end, but I don’t see hurt or anger… at least this is what I’m telling myself so I can get through the next 6 months or so until Hallmark “fixes” this!! This is a my favorite mystery series & it’s because Jill & Kris are such wonderful actors & have infused their characters with such chemistry that I’m totally invested!! Travis & Amy are endgame!! Just sayin’……

I was shocked. It really bothered me. I had to watch it again to see that part again. I hope it’s just an undercover assignment

  • Just watched “Deadly History” 💞. I loved ❤️ it up to the end. Then I was shocked 😳, confused 🤔, hurt 😢, and a little upset 😡. I love ❤️ all Hallmark Mystery Movies 🎥 and watch them over and over as I do their Christmas 🎄 movies 🍿. All of my family says I am addicted to Hallmark because it is the only channels I watch. I hate all the bad language, violence, nudity and innuendos on all other channels. So most channels are blocked. Amy and Travis are my favorite 😍 mystery couple. I have waited patiently for the first kiss 💋 and the happy 😊 ending. That’s why I watch Hallmark. The happy 😃 endings. In the cruel world 🌎 we live in it is so nice to at least dream 😴 of happy 😊 endings. I am praying 🙏 that the writers bring them back together for their happy 😃 ever after.
You can tell Travis is so heart broken 💔and after his background it must have been devastating 😭. When it said eleven months later I thought wedding 👰 or baby 👶. Not broken up. 💔 the movie itself was great! Loved 🥰 the twist and turns. The flirting and family bonding. I look forward to the next one with a lot of explaining. God bless you you all.

  • Maybe Amy went undercover on one of the the most dangerous deadly cases and Amy and Travis had to pretend to split for her to get close to the murderer and it had to look and feel real. They love each other and are meant to be together that’s for sure. She’s pregnant in real life maybe they will one day have one together in the show. Looking forward to seeing these two marry.

  • This is truly my favorite mystery series also. It is so well-written and the characters are so well developed that I cannot/will not/ do not believe that the writer suddenly veered off in some crazy direction. I read his (John Christian Plummer’s) response to fans who were distraught about the last scene. His response was this: Matthew 8:26 ( “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?”) . I take that to mean that we just need to trust his writing, trust the actors’ good judgement, and trust that this means there will definitely be an episode #8. I have heard both Jill Wagner and Kristoffer Polaha say that Amy and Travis are intended to be together. I think that this is going to be some sort of long undercover con on someone or some other part of solving a mystery and when it is over and the mystery is solved, imagine their joy (and ours) that they can be back together again. As to who Sam Jameson is, that is the name of a fictional detective in a series of crime fiction books. Amy would certainly have known that as would have John Christian Plummer- a wink, wink to the audience perhaps that something about this character is not going to be true. After the touching scene with Travis sharing his family history with Amy, there is no way we are to really believe that Amy is suddenly engaged to someone else.

I’m so disappointed with the ending. This movie is following what other series have been doing. As soon as the couple finally get together, they find a reason to end it.i love the actors and every movie in the series, especially this one. I just wish the ending was not a happy one.

No I hope they didn’t break up. They belong together. I hated the “sneak peek” I was fuming over that one. Don’t disappoint me Hallmark.

This was my favorite Hallmark show…. until that lousy look ahead ending. Now it is like every other prime time soap opera on some of the other channels. Done with it!

I hope that they are just doing this for a case they have been working on. They do need to stay together!!!!!! It was definitely not the ending that I expected but then I guess that was the point.
