Top 10 Romantic Gestures on TV

With Valentine’s Day, you often think of couples. And with that comes grand gestures. After the year we have had, how about a top ten list of what I think are the most romantic gestures on television? Some of these shows are old-school because it reminds us of what we miss these days. Also, these are in no particular order because I could not nail down which moments I loved more.

Gilmore Girls – Rory and Dean

Rory and Dean had many ups and downs in their relationship. On their three-month anniversary during season one Dean buys a car for Rory so she can stop riding the bus to Chilton all the time. He also admits his feelings for her by saying “I love you”.

Dean bought the car in hopes of restoring it. The first love is often one that you will never forget and Dean was Rory’s first love. And he comes back into her life many times throughout Gilmore Girls history. So this scene between them was so sweet and reminds us of those moments of our first love.

ER – Doug and Carol

We knew they had a history from the first few minutes of the series premiere. Throughout the first five seasons, their history had many more troubles from Carol’s engagement to someone else, and Doug’s many one-night stands. When they finally got together in Season Five, we thought all was right until Doug resigned and left for Seattle.

In the next season, we learn that Carol is pregnant with twins. After she has the twins she realizes Doug will always be the love of her life. So Carol makes the grand gesture and leaves the hospital, the city, and her family to move to Seattle to be with Doug.

Chicago Fire – Boden and Donna

At the beginning of Chicago Fire, we learn Boden had not had the best of romantic relationships. He has been married a couple of times before, but his career came first. And was often part of the issue. Especially with it being so dangerous.

During season two, Boden meets Donna, and falls for her but walks away thinking he isn’t good enough for her. But with a little help from Peter, he shows up at the school in full dress uniform and makes a grand gesture by proposing to her. Boden finally decided to let his past stay in the past and move forward with Donna.

This Is Us – Jack and Rebecca

These two are what many of us strive for in relationship goals. Many times Jack had done things to show us how much he loved Rebecca. They had many traditions throughout their marriage and their life with the “Big Three” until his death.

The biggest romantic gesture would be trying to help Rebecca with the loss of Kyle. Jack sees Randall in the nursery after a fireman dropped him off. Randall has no one, and in typical Jack fashion, he does the right thing at the right moment and decides to give Randall a home.

Grey’s Anatomy – Derek and Meredith

McDreamy and Dr. Grey, what can you say? These two have so many moments together! This means plenty of big gestures that are heavy on the romance!

But the one that stands out for me is when they are so busy that they give their wedding to Alex and Izzie. So they end up doing a quickie wedding and write promises to each other on post-it notes.

Castle – Rick and Kate

During the last episode of season three, Castle tries to save Kate during Captain Montgomery’s funeral. After Beckett is shot, she admits her feelings for him.

These two fight their attraction for the first three seasons and it isn’t until the end of season four that they finally connect.  Yet it was when Beckett was shot and admitted she loved Castle that stands out for me.

Friends – Chandler and Monica

It was the couple no one really saw coming. The show dedicated most of its time to Ross and Rachel coupling. But it was Chandler and Monica that showed us that two different people could come together and be happy.

When Chandler decorated the apartment with candles and flowers and proposed it was the most romantic moment between these two. At least, I think so.

Bones- Booth and Brennan

When Brennan spends Christmas Eve at a prison visiting her father and brother, Booth shows up outside with his son, Parker. In the beginning, we didn’t see much romance between Booth and Brennan.

But it was this episode in season three, where they showed how Booth is there for Brennan even in the toughest of times.  Parker and Booth showed up with a Christmas tree to remind Brennan what the holidays were about.

JAG – Harm and Mac

During season six, Mac gets engaged to Mic Brumby. And it was during the engagement party that Harm and Mac finally admit their feelings towards each other.

While their respected significant others are inside the house, they share a passionate kiss. This moment is the one that so many fans had waited for and Harm calls Mac by her given name, Sarah. Swoon!

Supernatural – John and Mary

The first five seasons of Supernatural were dedicated to John and Mary. Actually, the entire series is dedicated to the couple of John and Mary Winchester. John starts hunting things that go bump in the night after Mary is killed by a demon. John gives up his life to hunt down who killed Mary. And if giving up your life to hunt down who killed your spouse doesn’t say “I love you” what else does?
