‘DWTS: 29×09 Episode Recap: “Icons Night”
This week on Dancing With the Stars, the celebrities and their pro partners performed songs for “Icons Night.” The stars paid tribute to their favorite musical icons, from Elton John to Britney Spears to Amy Winehouse, we saw some amazing performances. With just a week to go until the semi-finals, the stars worked hard on their forms in order to bring us some amazing performances.

One of the best performances of the night went to Kaitlyn Bristowe, who got a perfect score for her Argentine Tango to Britney Spears’ “Toxic.” After a rough, and dramatic, two weeks, she got high praise from the judges, including Carrie Ann Inaba. She told Bristowe and partner Artem Chigvintsev that her critiques came from a place of wanting her to succeed and get better, and every single inch of her footwork was perfect.
Another perfect score went to Johnny Weir, who paid tribute to Amy Winehouse with his partner, Britt Stewart. There were some incredible dances and some that needed some work on their routine. Unfortunately, one such mess up occurred for AJ McLean and Cheryl Burke. Their intro had some moments where steps were off, but they were able to come back to finish the second part of the dance.
Dance Off

While McLean got a score of 23 for his performance, he made up for it with their dance-off against Johnny Weir. They received two extra points on top of their individual score. Justina Machado faced off with Bristowe and won two extra points. For Skai Jackson’s dance-off with Nelly, she earned two points. Nev Schulman, as mentioned last week in our recap, was exempt from the dance-off due to his overall scores.
Finding themselves in the bottom two this week were Johnny Weir and AJ McLean. Unfortunately, McLean was voted off. Sadly, this put an end to a fantastic run while breaking the hearts of every Backstreet fan out there. On their podcast, Pretty Messed Up, the two did talk about the mistakes made and Burke even mentioned having prepared for the semi-finals. As disappointed as we are, he truly gave it his all and we could not be prouder of his performance.
