‘Chicago PD’ 8×01 Review: “Fighting Ghosts”

Are you cheering as loudly as we are? Chicago PD is finally back after what feels like forever and it hit us with it all. Topics that people don’t usually like to address on television seemed to be at the top of the list and we loved it. The team sharing their opinions about real issues with one another was raw, real, and very much needed. The situation with Kevin was certainly escalating and Voight left us surprised. And not in a good way. So keep reading for our Chicago PD 6×01 review!

Faces Old and New

We were so glad to see Hailey back with the team where she belongs. But we were glad to see the rest of our intelligence unit in general. We also got a new face by the way of Ari Nicole Parker. She’s in a position of power and while she seemed to be impressed by Voight, we don’t know if that will last. Even though he does seem to be starting the season off a bit more mellow than seasons of the past. But when it comes to Kevin and what he’s dealing with, that may not be such a good thing.

While the team was all back together, we didn’t feel they were completely on the same page. But, while we would usually find this troubling, we actually kind of appreciated it. People don’t all have the same opinions and approaches to things. If they did, the world would be a very bland and boring place. But it felt like the first time the team was discussing their opinions on issues that matter and trying to find common ground and get their points across in a civil way. At the end of the day, they are more than a unit. They are a family and they’re going to find a way to understand one another. And they are certainly always going to have one another’s backs. And while their approaches and opinions may be different, their morals and values have always been the same.

Serious Business

Kevin acted as if he felt he was being paranoid. But we absolutely agreed when Adam said the crew played dirty and he wouldn’t be surprised if they planted something. This means we definitely weren’t surprised that Adam and Kevin were able to find something. And we’re so glad that while Kevin is facing a shitstorm for doing the right thing, he has his team at his back. They won’t let anything happen to him. Not if they can help it. And we certainly don’t want to be the person that crosses a member of Voight’s team. Because he does not play by the rules in a typical situation. So he certainly isn’t going to play by the rules when a member of his team is being targeted.

At least that’s what we thought. Until Voight made an about-face and let us down. Don’t get us wrong. Voight has done a lot of shady shit over the years that we have found more than a little questionable. More than that, he’s done things at times that we kind of hoped he would get fired for. But the one time when we really need him to step up for a member of his team? That’s when he decides he’s going to back up? He was so supportive of Kevin telling the truth and going through with things that put him in his current situation. Now that Kevin is here, Voight is just like “Nah, changed my mind. Take back what you said.”. No sir. Kevin is better than that and we hope he keeps pursuing this until the end. Because that’s the Kevin we know, love, and support.

Same Unit, New Attitude

The unit as a whole felt different in Chicago PD 6×01. We kind of expected Voight to take a step back in some of the decisions he was making. And that’s something we were more than okay with. Since, you know, most of his decisions have not been supported by us. But we were hoping Voight would inspire a bit more confidence from us. Then he immediately went back to his old ways and all we can do is shake our heads in disappointment and disapproval. As usual. When it comes to the rest of the unit, they seem to have opened up to another in a deeper way. They’re talking about issues we haven’t seen them discuss before. Issues that usually aren’t talked about with one another. And we think this is going to help their relationships grow and deepen as well. At least, we hope so!

What did you think of Chicago PD 8×01? What do you think of the situation Kevin is dealing with? And how about the way Voight has made an about-face and decided to handle it? Or not handle it as the case seems to be. Would you like to see Adam and Kim get back together? What about Hailey and Jay? Are we ever going to find out what the heck happened to Vanessa? We know she’s left the show, but it would be nice to know how they are going to explain it away. They didn’t even talk about her! At least, we didn’t hear it if they did.
