Avatar: The Last Airbender via Netflix
News about Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action!
If you’re like us you’ve already binged the animated series two times over since it’s come to Netflix. As you know, the streaming service announced a remake of the anime, Avatar: The Last Airbender back in 2018, and guess what? We’ve got a few updates and curiosities.
As a skeptic as well, after the train wreck of the 2010 movie, we’ve been a little shaky about this. The creators of the epic Nickelodeon series, Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino are at the helm of this live-action beauty. More so, Dante Basco (Zuko!) was spotted on Instagram and Konietzko is definitely looking for a way to get him involved with the show, just not as Zuko. Sadly, and tragically, that time has passed but who knows, maybe we’ll get to see him portray the dreadful Zhao or possibly the earth bender: The Boulder, or maybe as a past avatar meant to guide Aang. The possibilities are endless and we can’t wait to find out how he’ll be involved.
When do we expect to see the remake?
That’s tricky. The last we figured, it was going to be later this year, but now, with the pandemic and murder hornets and an array of 2020 problems that have become quite meme-worthy, it seems like 2021 is more hopeful for the live-action of Avatar: The Last Airbender. We know. Frowny face. All great things take time and patience though, so just hold on for a little while longer. We recommend a soothing cup of Iroh’s calming tea.

Have no Fear!
The one thing you don’t ever have to worry about it the story. The beloved creators are keeping it as close as possible to the original. Not only that, but they will also be telling the story of Zuko’s mother, Ursa! Such a tragic part of Zuko’s story, but pivotal. We’re beyond excited, yet unprepared for that wave of emotion.
While there’s no clear cast quite yet, auditions have begun! Also, the show is remaining close to its cultural roots rather than a whitewash touch. We want to assume that the creators will follow the cultures of which the bending styles were created off of for its cast, but it’s yet to be confirmed or denied by Netflix. We are dying to find out more about this! However, what has been revealed is that the actors that will be chosen will be close in age to that of their anime counterparts.
As for any other news? It’s all speculation and hush-shush, but we’re certainly excited to hear anything at this point. This show is virtually ageless and it’s exciting to see it still thrive and know that newer generations are in love with it. And any droplet of news just amplifies our excitement about the live-action show.
Are you as excited as we are about this? What are looking forward to the most? Personally, we’re looking forward to Uncle Iroh’s wisdom and Appa, not to mention Toph’s priceless wit. Let’s chat in the comments below!
