Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs Will Begin A Phased Reopening May 20

Disney Parks Blog has officially announced on Thursday that Disney Springs will begin a phased reopening on May 20. After being closed for two months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the beloved plaza at Walt Disney World Resort will be allowing visitors to return and enjoy third-party owned shops and restaurants at a minimum capacity. It is currently unknown what will exactly be opened during this initial phase.

Matt Simon, Vice President of Disney Springs, assured guests in his blog post,

“Disney Springs will begin to reopen in a way that incorporates enhanced safety measures, including increased cleaning procedures, the use of appropriate face coverings by both cast members and guests, limited-contact guest services and additional safety training for cast members.”

In order to look after everyone’s health and well-being, Disney Springs will have limitations on hours of operation, capacity, and parking during the prime opening phase. Be sure to frequently check DisneySprings.com for updates on operating hours, locations, and safety procedures.

Although theme parks, water parks, and hotels are accepting reservations for June 1 and beyond, they will all remain closed until further notice. When they are ready to begin operating, however, they are expected to reopen in two phases – starting at 50% capacity and then eventually up to 75% capacity according to a report from Variety. Markers will most likely be set six feet apart at ride queues to enable social distancing, and guests at the age of 65 years and older as well as those with a higher risk for contracting COVID-19 will be encouraged to remain at home.

While the rest of the Disney resorts around the globe have been closed, part of Shanghai Disneyland Resort reopened to guests early March. The theme park, however, will finally proceed operations on Monday, May 11.
