‘Noelle’ May Be Our New Christmas Favorite
We loved this movie. More than that, we’ve already watched Noelle multiple times and we know we’re going to watch it about a hundred more. And that’s just before Christmas. So let’s talk about what makes it such an amazing movie and why we love it so much! Before continuing, please be aware that this is a review of the film and will contain spoilers if you haven’t seen it yet!
Anna Kendrick Breaking The Mold
If someone had told us there was going to be a comedy about Santa’s daughter, we couldn’t have chosen a better actress than Anna Kendrick to play her. She has the perfect personality to bring Noelle to life. Noelle is witty and a little bit snarky. But she has a warm heart and wants more from her life. She also goes out of her way to prove that she can break barriers and be an amazing Santa. Speaking of snarky, it doesn’t get much snarkier than Polly the elf. She’s supposed to watch after Noelle and keep her out of trouble. While she does obviously love the girl, her blunt attitude had us cracking up at every turn.

In typical Disney fashion, our main character has to face a loss in order for her life to change. Such is the case for Noelle as Santa passes away. But she isn’t the next in line to wear that suit. Nope, that honor goes to her brother, Nick. Not only does Nick not want to be the next Kris Kringle, but he doesn’t seem to be cut out for it either. Noelle, on the other hand, seems to be the perfect fit for the part. Then there is their cousin, Gabe, who wants to turn Christmas into an Amazon type of event. That’s a hard no, Gabe.
Not So Typical
While there were definitely some of the typical Disney themes and situations we expected to see, there were also a few surprises. This isn’t your typical move that ends in romance. But that doesn’t mean it ends in anything other than happily ever after. That happy ending just means that Noelle takes her place as Santa Claus and rides off into the night in her sleigh, excited for what future Christmases will hold for her.
Though there is a man that enters the picture and helps Noelle out. And we certainly expected him to become the love interest that would become the mister to Noelle’s miss Claus. The end message in that relationship seemed to be that Noelle and Jake crossed paths so she could teach him what was important and what Christmas spirit means. But if there happened to be a sequel, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Jake again.
Why We Loved It
Not every moment was full of laughs. It was clearly a movie geared mostly for a younger audience. But it had a lot of things for us as adults to enjoy as well and enjoy we did. We loved the relationship between Noelle and Nick. It certainly reminded us of how we get along with our siblings. Or, you know, don’t get along with them at times as the case may be. It helped remind us of some of our favorite things about the holidays.

It’s no secret that Christmas doesn’t always mean as much when we get older. Our jobs can become our focal point. Our family can get pushed to the background, especially if it’s a family that has become extended or drifted apart. But watching a movie like Noelle reminds us that sometimes we need to all just take a breath and realize that the point behind Christmas is time spent together.
Why You Should Watch
There are some seriously funny parts to this overall heartwarming movie. Just wait until you hear about yogurt pants. Trust us on that one. The overall message of the movie is adorable and quirky and will give you some definite Elf vibes. Yes, it’s silly. It’s meant to be. It isn’t meant to be anything serious or heavy. So if you’re looking for a feel-good film that will give you a few laughs along the way and leave you smiling, look no further than Noelle.
