30 Days of Thanks: Why We’re Thankful for ‘The Little Mermaid’

We are 25 days into our 30 Days of Thanks event. Today, Cape & Castle is thankful for the Disney classic that gave us the beautiful redhead mermaid with the angelic voice, The Little Mermaid. Here are some of the reasons why we adore this animated masterpiece.

1. The Songs

This film definitely has one of the best soundtracks out there. We’re talking about “Under The Sea” here! We’d be simply lying if we said that this song does not get us grooving on our feet (or fins).

“Part of Your World” is by far the best Disney Princess song. The lyrics are easily relatable to most adventurous young girls out there who want to explore and do anything other than their norm. Also, who doesn’t love Jodi Benson’s vocals?

Let’s not forget about “Kiss The Girl,” one of Disney’s most romantic songs out there!

2. The Story

The story of The Little Mermaid is fun for all ages and has a lot of great life values that we can take note of. First and foremost, this movie is truly a tale about love – not only is it an iconic love story between a mermaid and a human, but it also demonstrates both the strong love a father has for his daughter as well as brotherly love. King Triton may have been strict and a little irrational at times for assuming that all humans are bad, yet he loved his daughter, Ariel, so much that he only wanted to do everything in his power to protect her and even took her place as Ursula’s slave creature.

Flounder, Sebastian (although a bit double-sided), and Scuttle were loyal friends to Ariel and helped her show Prince Eric that she was the woman (mermaid) that he had been looking for.

While Ariel did not always have the best judgement and was disrespectful to her father, she was also passionate, loved to learn, was open-minded, and saw the best in everyone, giving the benefit of the doubt to humans unlike her father.

Last but not least, do not ever sign a contract without reading it first, or else good luck, Charlie!
