4 things you can expect to see in the ‘Black Widow’ trailer

It’s just been confirmed: the teaser trailer of Black Widow will be released on December 13. Natasha Romanoff’s long-awaited standalone movie holds many expectations from the fans. Even though everybody insists that the movie will be set after the events of Captain America: Civil War, we can’t help wondering if it is indeed only a prequel. A (super secret) trailer was shown during SDCC but it has happened that the Marvel trailers ended up featuring completely different footage. Here are four things that are likely to be shown in the first trailer.

The Red Room

Avengers: Age of Ultron is the first movie to have given us an insight into the Red Room, the name for the Cold War program and the place where Natasha, and the other Black Widows, were trained. This place is a prominent part of Natasha’s past and history where she garnered discipline and her assassin skills. In the comics, it was where Romanoff and The Winter Soldier met. As we have only had snippets in the second Avengers installment (and the ABC show Agent Carter), we can assume that the Black Widow movie will dwell on more thoroughly on the topic.

Yelena Belova

Yelena Belova is a well-known character in the comics and the second one to take on the name Black Widow. The character was confirmed to appear in the film during San Diego Comic-Con and is played by British actress Florence Pugh. Speculation goes that Pugh could become the new Black Widow in the MCU (like Falcon was passed on Captain America’s shield in Avengers: Endgame). It will be interesting to see how the relationship between the two assassins is explored in the movie.

First look at Red Guardian

Stranger Things actor David Harbour has revealed he is playing Alexei Shostakov, aka Red Guardian, who is the Soviet version of Captain America. In the comics, Red Guardian is Natasha’s ex-husband. Although it is unlikely the MCU will go there, Harbour has made it clear that the two will have a “very long and complex history” in the movie, as well as with Steve Rogers. This has risen speculations about whether Cap could make an appearance in the Black Widow movie.

Budapest

The Hungarian capital has been referenced several times over the movies (starting with The Avengers) and seems to be significant both to Romanoff and Clint Barton. However, based on the interviews from Comic-Con, it doesn’t seem like Hawkeye will be part of this specific mission. Undoubtedly, Budapest has become part of the mythology around Black Widow and it is logical that the city is featured in her standalone movie.

So mark December 13 on your calendars (I certainly will!). Another date to circle, Black Widow will hit theaters in May 2020 (yep, just circle the whole month).
